
Karen DeVoe, mezzo-soprano
Karen DeVoe is a Southcoast native and has been singing with the Sippican Choral Society for the past 25 seasons. Mrs. DeVoe holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of Rhode Island and a Masters of Music in Music Education from the University of Connecticut. Mrs. DeVoe is a frequent soloist with the Sippican Choral Society and is the choir director at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Mattapoisett. She has been employed by Plymouth Public Schools as an elementary music teacher and choral director for the past 25 years and has directed the Plymouth International Chorus and the Plymouth Children’s Chorus. She resides in Marion with her husband and three children.

Barbara Allen Hill, soprano
Highly regarded for her artistry and versatility, Barbara specializes in performing and recording the music of the Middle Ages through the present day. As a soloist, she has appeared with Musica Sacra (Boston), Masterworks Chorale, Seven Times Salt, the Old North Festival Chorus, and is the soprano cantor at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross, Boston. As an ensemble member, she performs with Ensemble Altera, Cappella Clausura, Emmanuel Music, and the GRAMMY-winning ensemble The Crossing. An enthusiastic supporter of new music, she especially enjoys the opportunity to premiere and record new works. Highlights include recording Gavin Bryars: The Fifth Century (2018 GRAMMY Award for Best Choral Performance), premiering Julia Wolfe’s “Fire in my mouth” with the NY Philharmonic and The Crossing in January 2019, joining the 2021 Cambridge Christmas Revels as a featured soloist, and she is thrilled to be making her Carnegie Hall debut as a soloist in Heidi Breyer’s “Amor Aeternus: A Requiem for the Common Man” this July. Barbara is a member of Beyond Artists and donates a portion of her artistic earnings to organizations such as 350.org.

Hannah Judas, mezzo-soprano
A lifelong musician, Hannah is a versatile performer and music educator in the Greater Boston Area. She holds a B.A. in Voice Performance and Pedagogy from Plymouth State University (Plymouth, NH). She is an active member at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross (Boston, MA), Saint John the Evangelist Church (Cambridge, MA), Night Song (Cambridge, MA), Peacham Congregational Church (Peacham, VT), and sings for the High Holy Days at Temple Beth Shalom (Needham, MA). She has also performed with New Hampshire Master Chorale (Concord, NH), TIGER Theater (Plymouth, NH), Educational Theater Collaborative (Plymouth, NH), and St. Martins Theater (St. Martins, New Brunswick). In addition to performing, she teaches voice, piano, and group voice classes at The Performing Arts Connection (Sudbury, MA) and teaches in-home private music lessons through Jammin’ With You (based in Wellesley, MA).

Michael Gonzalez , tenor
Michael Gonzalez has been praised as having a "sweet and resonant" tenor voice and is quickly making himself known in the performing world. He has performed a variety of roles ranging from Colonel Fairfax - Yeomen of the Guard to Barigoule - Cendrillion, along with international performances most recently with the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria. Michael premiered a new work, Te Deum, by Boston based composer Richard J. Clark in Paris, France in April, 2022. A Master in Vocal Performance graduate from the New England Conservatory, Michael maintains an active partnership with several organizations including the Boston Cathedral singers who recently released an album, “From the bell tower.” Other active partnerships include Piccola Opera, Cambridge Chamber Ensemble and Hartford Opera Theater.

Michael Carr, baritone
A graduate of the Saint Paul's Choir School in Cambridge, Michael has been active in the Greater Boston choral community for over 20 years, primarily as a cantor, soloist, or chorister at Catholic churches. Michael began his solo career as the primary Cantor at a church near his home in Quincy, while attending Boston College High School. He continued on to the Catholic University of America in Washington DC, studying Music Education. In addition to performing with the university's main chorus, he was selected to be a member of the elite Chamber Chorus, studying under Dr. Leo Nestor. A favorite highlight of his time at CUA was traveling to Czechia to sing Verdi's Requiem at the Terezin Ghetto. Post-CUA, he remained in the Washington area for several years, finding a choral home with the prestigious Cathedral Choir of St. Thomas More in Arlington. Upon returning to the Boston area, Michael joined the Jameson Singers of Belmont for a few seasons, and has become an in-demand cantor for funerals along the South Shore. He is thrilled to be making his professional debut as a soloist in tonight's performance with the Sippican Choral Society.

Steven Young, organist
Dr. Young is Director of Choral Activities at Bridgewater State University and has led performances of major works by Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Persichetti, Rheinberger, Rutter, Stravinsky, and others. Under Dr. Young's direction, the BSU Chamber Singers, a select a cappella choir, has toured throughout Europe and the U.S. as the university's singing ambassadors. Dr. Young's association with the university began in 1985, when he served as staff accompanist; he has since taught classes in music theory, music history, music appreciation, and piano. Dr. Young holds several degrees in organ performance; his teachers have included Carolyn Day Skelton, Yuko Hayashi, Max Miller, Russell Saunders, and John Ferguson. An active recitalist, Dr. Young has performed throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. Recent performance venues have included the Methuen Memorial Music Hall in Methuen, MA; Trinity Church, Boston; St. Thomas Church, New York; and the Festival d'Orgue in Sens, France.
