Dr. Tianxu Zhou, originally from Beijing, is a choral conductor, collegiate vocal professor, and international performer throughout Northern America, Asia and Europe. As a faculty member at University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, he conducts the Chamber Choir and the University Chorus. He is an alumnus and former faculty member of the prestigious China Central Conservatory in Beijing and Shenandoah Conservatory in Virginia.
In addition to the vocal ensembles at the University of Massachusetts, the conducting credits of Dr. Zhou also include conductor for the Rhode Island College Mens’ Chorus, director of the Loudoun Chorale, as well as the conductor of the Beijing Community Choir. Dr. Zhou is a sought after clinician and guest conductor where he has directed the Tri-County Choral Festival in Southeastern Massachusetts and the South East Massachusetts MMEA District Junior Chorus.
Recent choral performances include collaborations with the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra of Handel’s Messiah and with Grammy award winning artist Paul Winter of his composition Missa Gaia. In spring of 2015, Dr. Zhou led the UMass Dartmouth Choral ensemble on their first international performance tour in Italy. This coming year Dr. Zhou’s presentation on Chinese chorale repertoire and pronunciation will be featured at the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) Eastern Division Conference in Boston, MA.
As a singer, Dr. Zhou is featured in concerts and operatic productions both in America and abroad throughout China, Japan and Europe. He performed with many opera companies such as the Washington National Opera where he shared the stage with many world-renowned artists. He has also performed as a soloist with many orchestras including the National Symphony Orchestra, Maryland Symphony and Washington Chorus. Some of his more recent performances are the Saint John’s Passion with the Rhode Island Civic Chorale and Orchestra in Providence, RI, an Opera Concert with the Tri-County Symphonic band in Marion, a recital of Arias and Art Songs at the Zeiterion Performing Arts Center in New Bedford, MA, and performance tours in Italy and Greece.
Michelle Gordon is an Independent Piano Teacher and Choral Accompanist in Mattapoisett, MA. She is a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music, through the Music Teacher's National Association. She is also the Organist, Bell Choir, and Jr. Choir Director at the Mattapoisett Congregational Church. She accompanies the Center School, Old Hammondtown School, ORR JHS and ORR HS Choruses, as well as the Sippican Choral Society. She is a past-President and member of the Massachusetts Music Teacher's Association, and has been selected as the MMTA "Teacher of the Year" for 2009-2010. She is an annual presenter at both the MTNA National Conferences and the National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy, and her articles can be read in "American Music Teacher" and "Keyboard Companion".
